Stuffed Deep Dish Pizza Pie is a hearty and indulgent culinary creation that takes traditional pizza to an entirely new level.

Originating from Chicago, this iconic dish features a thick, buttery crust that is both crisp and flaky, providing the perfect foundation for its rich and savory layers.

Unlike regular deep-dish pizza, the stuffed version adds an extra layer of dough on top of the filling,

creating a sealed pie-like appearance that is both visually appealing and utterly satisfying.

Ingredients:

1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casing removed

1 small onion, finely diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes

1 tsp dried oregano

½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

½ tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

1 refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade)

1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup shredded provolone cheese

½ cup ricotta cheese

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg, lightly beaten

Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch deep-dish pie pan or springform pan.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook Italian sausage until browned. Drain excess fat. Add onion and cook until translucent. Stir in garlic, cook for 1 minute.

Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Roll out the pizza dough and line the prepared pan, allowing excess to hang over the edges.

Layer half the mozzarella and provolone on the bottom, followed by the sausage-tomato mixture.

Add dollops of ricotta cheese and sprinkle with Parmesan. Top with remaining mozzarella and provolone.

Fold the dough edges over the top and brush with beaten egg.

Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.

Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving, if desired.
